If not, I've easily ran the wire under the carpet by pulling the carpet from the tack strip and running the wire along the far side of the tack strip (further away from the wall).

You can buy "flat" speaker wire for this purpose but the ga. is usually pretty high and so is the price. If it's a long run I wouldn't go that way.
